From 1 April 2022, all UK businesses that are VAT registered are now required to keep their records digitally and submit VAT returns to HMRC using MTD-compatible software via an Application Programming Interface (API). Other areas of MTD, such as Income tax and Corporation tax, will be coming soon.
Income tax has a starting date of April 2024 and the earliest corporation tax will be mandated will be April 2026.
