We are pleased to announce that we will be supporting BACA & Fairlight school during the upcoming year as part of our pledge to help the younger generation with financial literacy.
We are supporting secondary school Brighton Aldridge Community School (BACA) with their STEM project which will help their Year 7 cohort of students to participate in The Race To The Line STEM Challenge 23/24.
The Race for the Line project took place at BACA on Friday 22 March with classes completing the building part of the project and the race will be taking place later in the school year (pictured above). It was great to see the kids and teams in action building their racing cars.
On the 25 June, 16 teams from around the South East took part in the Race for the Line Regional Final and BACA came first and second in the rocket car race! Take a look here
We are also proudly supporting Fairlight Primary School on St Leonard’s Road (just off Lewes Road) with the purchase of 60 Numicon sets for their new starters in September! These will help their children to continue with their maths learning outside of school.
This is what Damien Jordan, Headteacher at Fairlight Primary and Nursery School, had to say about our support.
“At Fairlight Primary and Nursery School we often ask and remind parents to do practical Maths at home to support the children. This often takes the form of cooking and measuring. This is great but in school practical Maths is being able to “touch” a multiplication problem by using equipment and resources to represent numbers or functions.
We were very lucky that working with Plus Accounting they agreed to provide all of our children who join us at Fairlight Primary and Nursery School in their first year of school with a practical Maths kit that contains the same resources we use in school to represent number. This was then used to run sessions for parents to come and find out how they can then use this at home to support their children and how the children can then show them how they learn in Maths.
We have seen a significant increase in parents telling us that they are learning Maths at home with their child. And by learning it is often the child teaching the parents how they are learning Maths at school. And as we all know the best way to find out if someone truly understands something is to ask them to show or teach someone else it”.
This will enable us to continue our positive impact on our local community, and you can find further details on our CSR page.
