Companies House has announced that any businesses that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can now request an extension to file their financial statements and confirmation statements.

The maximum extension being granted is 3 months and an appeal to Companies House must be lodged before the company’s normal filing deadline.

If the appeal is accepted, a standard two-month extension will be granted with a further month being granted if deemed necessary.

We expect that any appeal will follow the current criteria for an extension in that this will be based on poor health. We expect that self-isolation will also be considered as a reasonable reason to appeal.

Some companies may need to be aware of other regulatory reasons for filing their accounts and these may not have changed so we suggest that contact is made with the regulatory body to confirm.

We also recommend that companies continue to make every effort to meet the deadline and as usual any company accounts filed late without their appeal being granted will incur an automatic penalty.

Please contact us today, if you would like to discuss your position further.
