Budget 2016: Company Cars

22nd March 2016

In the recent budget the Chancellor announced the extension of 100% first year allowances for businesses purchasing low emissions company cars. However, from April 2018 to be eligible as a low emission car for this purpose,  the CO2 emissions threshold has been lowered to 50g/km

This effectively means that the only cars qualifying for first year allowances from April 2018 will be electric or certain plug-in hybrid cars. Whether this means the demise of the traditional company car or a change in driving habits remains to be seen.
