Paul Feist, Director
Paul is the firm’s managing director. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he spent 5 years working in the tax department of Grant Thornton in Brighton before founding the firm in 1992.
He is responsible for overseeing the accounting, tax and business services provided to many of the firm’s largest clients, covering a diversified range of businesses including healthcare, telecoms, retail, McDonald’s restaurants, technology companies and the property sector. Paul’s approach is hands on and pragmatic – he is interested in the detail and with a full understanding of the business, advises directors and owners on the key strategic and planning issues.
Paul also manages the firm’s marketing and business development programme and after more than 20 years promoting the firm in the Brighton area, he has acquired an enviable list of trusted professional contacts to whom we recommend our clients. He is a keen supporter of the Brighton MD HUB, a peer to peer networking group for business owners.
Corporate and Social Responsibilities are a key part of our presence in the community and Paul supports a number of local charities and organisations including Ronald McDonald House in Brighton, East Dean Cricket Club and Eastbourne RFC where he now uses a calculator more than a pair of rugby boots. He continues as Chairman of the Brighton and Central Sussex group of Chartered Accountants, ever hopeful that somebody else will take on the role after almost 20 years in the chair.
When there is any spare time, the gym seems to take second place to the kitchen but at some stage, that may need to be reversed!
Peter Hedgethorne, Director
Peter joined Paul in partnership in 1993 after a number of years working in tax for major national accountancy firms, during which time he developed his knowledge and skills in tax planning for large owner managed businesses and wealthy individuals. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a smaller firm in London which has given him a wide spread of experience in dealing with accounts, audit and tax; he is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Peter now heads up the tax team at Plus Accounting, in addition to looking after a portfolio of clients, and deals with a wide variety of issues from complex corporate reorganisations to inheritance and capital gains tax planning.
In his spare time, Peter tries to keep up to date with the activities of his three daughters in various parts of the country and relaxes by running ridiculously long distances on a regular basis, interspersed by trips to watch Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex and (recently) numerous Premiership football grounds.
Luke Thomas, Director
Luke joined the firm in 2008 and was appointed director in 2014. Luke trained with another local firm of Chartered Accountants, qualifying as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2006. Following this Luke transferred to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales through their pathways to membership scheme.
Luke has developed a wide range of accounting, tax and VAT knowledge and looks after a diverse portfolio of clients.
However, the focus of much of Luke’s work is in the Technology, Media and Innovation sector including the Independent Video Game industry where he offers specialist expertise such as Research & Development and Video Games Tax Relief claims.
Luke who lives in Seaford has recently welcomed his second child and rarely has any spare time! When he gets the opportunity he enjoys playing golf and watching football, being a lifelong supporter of Tottenham Hotspur.
Chris Morey, Director
Chris joined the firm in 2015 and was appointed as a director in 2018. Chris qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2002 whilst working at a medium sized firm in London before moving to PricewaterhouseCoopers in Gatwick where he was employed as a audit and assurance manager. After five years at PWC he joined Kaplan Financial Limited, the accountancy training company, where he tutored ICAEW students in Financial Reporting and Audit.
Chris now heads up the Corporate and Specialist Services department which includes the firm's audit and assurance assignments. His experience of auditing large companies together with the technical knowledge gained from working at both PWC and Kaplan has ensured that the transition to FRS102 for many of the firm's biggest clients and to FRS 102 Section 1A for other clients has gone smoothly. Chris enjoys all things assurance and is looking to grow this area of the firm.
Chris takes a keen interest in the development of every member of the team especially our ICAEW and ACCA students where the technical and exam knowledge gained at Kaplan is always on hand to give advice when needed.
Chris lives in Hove with his family and his daughters both attend a local school. Chris is a big supporter of Sussex County Cricket team and enjoys the excitement of 20-20. He also enjoys watching all kinds of sports especially football and international rugby whenever he gets the opportunity. His golf clubs continue to gather dust in his garage but he hopes to be able to spend more time on the golf course in the future.
